Emerging and Re-emerging Viral Diseases of Large Animals

چکیده
A single-nucleotide polymorphism (A(2254) or G(2254)) in the DNA polymerase gene of equine herpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) has been linked to the neuropathogenic phenotype which induces equine herpes myeloencephalitis (EHM). Based upon this, a real-time PCR assay to distinguish potentially neuropathogenic from non-neuropathogenic EHV-1 strains was described in 2007. With some limitations, this assay was useful for typing purposes, but lacked the sensitivity to be used for combined detection and typing purposes. Recently, a second generation assay was described to accomplish this (1). Both the original and the new assay were then compared in terms of performance on a combination of archived isolates and clinical specimens. The results showed that the new assay had greater sensitivity and typing accuracy than the previous one and, as such, will be a valuable tool for the differentiation between neuropathogenic and nonneuropathogenic strains of EHV-1.

The importance of vaccination in the control of the emerging viral diseases outbreaks
During the past decade several new viruses have emerged making a global health threat. The most pandemic threats are due to the either zoonotic or vector-borne viruses. The emerging of new infectious diseases continue to be threaten of public health and the social activities including traveling or trade help to sustain and spread of the viruses. Developing methods to manage and predict th...

Zoonoses are disease and/or infection naturally transmissible between vertebrate animals and humans. Emerging zoonoses are defined by the WHO/FAO/OIE joint consultation on emerging zoonotic disease held in Geneva, 3-5 may 2004 as "diseases which are newly recognized or newly evolved or that have occurred previously but show an increase in incidence or expansion in geographical, host or vector r...

Introduction: Rodents are the primary source of several zoonotic infectious diseases. The upsurge of rodents’ population in Najaf Abad Village of Nishapur County, northeastern Iran in February 2014 raised the concerns about the outbreak of diseases such as plague and tularemia. This report discusses the lessons learned from the outburst of rodents’ population in that village and rep...

Poliomyelitis is a highly infectious viral disease which is mainly transmitted via contaminated food and drinking water by human feces, especially in situations of poor hygiene and sanitation (1). This disease is caused by 3 types of wild poliovirus (WPV) (types 1, 2 and 3), and immunity against one type does not create immunity against other types. In our country according National Immuni...
